And Like a Fool I Mixed Them [10 May 2002|02:04am]
"And it strangled up my mind
And now people just get uglier
And I have no sense of time"

I am very very confused
i've taken tests
taken naps
and eaten food
but i don't know when, where, how, or in what order

and they're off.... [07 May 2002|03:20am]
6th

University
Broadway
4th
3rd
and i'm home at last

Walking along at 3am, down the middle of the street....
life doesn't always seem real when you're alone. just conversation from drug dealers and prostitutes, not conversation really at all

wondering if things really happened at all
you and the pavement
you and a card table
you and the your own logic
you and a greyhound bus
you and well nevermind

the room is warm and stuffy and my belly is full of pizza

"going to bed with a gun in my mouth
fast asleep when the stars come out"

atlantic-antic-it's gigantic [04 May 2002|10:13pm]
walked around for a long time today
street festivals, i get distracted and nostalgic and not too sad but sad enough

it's early, i'm antsy--nowhere to go and nothing to do
should be studying, but that's pretty much impossible

tonight, i went to the movies w/ tim hutton
we saw:
dogtown and z boys
it is very good and enjoyable, etc. it teaches you just how awesome southern california can be
you know, and sean penn is the narrator

i really wanted to make a taco bell run--
but i don't have any money
*insufficient funds*
I refuse to use a credit card at taco bell, i think if you do that your name is given to the FBI or something--it probably should be

denied the simple pleasures in life like gorditas and maybe even a chicken quesedilla

I find myself counting dimes and confusing the guy who works at the deli, he looks a lot like saddam hussein
luckily, i had enough change to buy a 2 liter and a bag of chips

some dude down in the courtyard with a broad-brimmed hat, a cigar and trenchcoat....talking about graduate school
makes you want to dig a hole in the ground and climb right on in

such a shame, the end of my latin career will be ugly

i like bob dylan for sometimes being a complete goofball

Do you have any books about giraffes? [27 Apr 2002|12:35am]
a funny thing happened this evening..

well, the fire alarm went off and displaced me from my room
so, i'm wandering around and wondering what to do.
some kind of malfunction, i guess.......then i see my good buddy yoni and we bum around. We walk by the strand bookstore and see a crowd of people and some cops and a video camera....what's going on?
michael jackson is in the store
oh
I stand around and wait a while and then a limo pulls up, the cops make a path and michael jackson (the king of pop, not the wide receiver) scurries out, and jumps into the limo

he poked his little head out and gave a wave

kind of creepy
but very funny

not everyday you get to see michael jackson

the wasted hours (aka 2-4am) [26 Apr 2002|02:50am]
[ mood | mood? ]
[ music | cracker--forever ]

"So many ways
I never found
To make you stay
Just one more day"

Oh, my misfortune is a just a murmur in the pipes
music for the spiders and mice

revenue for coca-cola

just another sad tale that doesn't need to be told

I was just saying.....
seems impossible that last summer was almost a year ago
so much fun was had
and the bad parts seem
like the Alps
in retrospect

a day on the couch in early August
seems much better than countless days
spent under the covers in an empty room

in the winter, nonetheless

Too bad early adulthood is not the time for repeat performances. Too bad I went to school this spring. I really hope my bowling game isn't in shambles

congratulations to the delivery guy at the Young Chow. He won some money on instant lotto tickets today.

just another sleepy early morning [19 Apr 2002|03:25am]
got through jamming to the latest cracker album
man oh man is it a good one

makes me want to split a six pack w/ a good buddy on a humid night in July....sittin out on a porch ramblin about something or other

i hope i've paid a lot of dues over the past year
if i haven't....
i shudder to think what it must really feel like

so many places i want to be--none of them here or now, though

meditation on the st. mark's McDonalds [17 Apr 2002|08:51pm]
i order whatever i see on the tray...because i want to make life as easy as possible for the unfortunate african immigrants who have to work there

McDonalds in other places....i don't mind watching comfortably situated high school kids scurry around

conclusion: i am racist

Thinkin' bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law [09 Apr 2002|02:10am]
[ mood | winding down ]
[ music | the replacements--tim ]

but most of all....she was thinkin' bout the Jack of Hearts

I'm busy with my new
preoccupation
which is trying to keep myself
preoccupied
a hard thing to do
when you're all broken up inside

cooking is good because it can take up a good chunk of time and still feel productive. except when, like today, you accidentally pour boiling water on your hand
I need to play a lot of video games, read a lot and maybe even go to class if keeps my mind turning

you gotta keep waiting for the cavalry, waiting, waiting
until you run out of rifle rounds,
pull the six shooters from your belt
and go down firing

today i learned that elephants are awesome, i can't wait until summer when i can flip between baseball and the discovery channel--grrrrr, but now all those stupid detective shows.....i just want to watch plain old animals, not human animals

so, i'm reading about the committee of public safety, it's a good book because it was written during the WW2. it's actually a history and not just a speculative psychoanalysis of eastern european pole vaulters and the role they played in independence movements.
although, i might read that book too, only if were under 300 pages though

to remind myself, Paul Westerberg will be at the virgin mega store at union square on April 28

"If being wrong is a crime,
I'm serving forever
If being strong is your kind,
Then i need help here with this feather"

the 24 hour vacation [07 Apr 2002|06:11pm]
1 show, 2 diners and a lot of video game playing.......now i'm back in my 3rd floor cave

the 2nd joe strummer show--pretty much the same songs but in different order and rocked out twice as hard

but but but but.......
two amazing additions, both in the encore
1)Bankrobber
and
#2 needs some explaining. for the recent album, the mescaleros acquired mr. tymon dogg, an expert fiddler.
this got me thinking.......hrrmmmm...didn't i remember seeing the credit (T. Dogg) for the song "lose this skin" on sandinista? must be the same guy....and it is.
so, the first encore song, he walks up to the mic, looking much like bilbo baggins and begins to wail..."come with me I won't hide......"
awesome
and that's some mighty fine fiddlin'

just a little confused? [03 Apr 2002|11:15am]
well, i've eaten too much cheese
and i thought you could never eat too much cheese. maybe it was the mixing of meat and dairy. has anyone ever tried the dairy feast? i'd like to try the dairy feast

was up all night studying for the art test today--i think it went relatively well, no major problems
only, now my head is all screwed around.....these days it just seems like "i'm either waking up or going to sleep"
man alive, it is warm today--i think it is in the 70's or something. Nothing in the world like the smell of warm warm garbage

addendum [02 Apr 2002|11:53pm]
nada surf opened for joe strummer
and yes, i just checked it, the same nada surf who did "popular"
i have no idea--but they were good and didn't sound anything at all like that band
and they looked too young--oh well, no complaints

the road to rock and roll [02 Apr 2002|11:49pm]
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros
Tuesday, April 2
Brooklyn, NY

It would be ridiculous to try and do this show justice or do joe strummer justice. so, just a few words
who was there: i appeared to be one of the youngest people, older folks mostly but really into it
otherwise: 1 guy w/ green spikes
1 rudeboy

highlights: from the new album, johnny appleseed and bummed out city are killer--a guitar/fiddle jam session

clash gems: junco partner and.......jorge, i did think of you.....white man in hammersmith palais....a crowd sing a long for sure

hmm...what else.....the harder they come--can't miss w/ that one

the pinnacle: pressure drop followed immediately by police on my back
me and tim hutton were about 15 feet from stage at the back edge of the rowdiness and had to push back a pack of 30 something businessmen as we jumped around, one of them glared back at us
that was a laugh

the encore: yallla yalla
then,
who knew strummer did lou reed? hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side
to top it off:
blitzkrieg bop

happy, tired and drenched in sweat

i hate to be so cliche [30 Mar 2002|04:56pm]
but this afternoon
I actually did get lost in the supermarket
maybe the doot doo doo music, varying prices and narrow aisles are meant to confuse you and make you buy more food?
I ended up w/ cheese and crackers and some onion bagels and not much else
but it was fun to wander around by myself and listen to the guys talking to each other behind the fish counter
hmmm.....fish counter, maybe i could do that job...not in the supermarket, but in a lake or river....one trout two trout three trout and four

i came in here for the special offer--guaranteed personality
